Focus: Youth work, human rights, women's rights, Muslim issues

Job Description:

The American Islamic Congress seeks a Project Manager to implement, oversee and execute Project Nur, a student led initiative across campuses in the US (http://www.projectnur.org/).

Project Nur is a Muslim student led-initiative that aims to build positive relationships by building bridges between Muslim and non-Muslim students. Project Nur will be dedicated to creating a space that allows all students to learn from and about each other in order to build an interethnic and multi-faith student community promoting human rights and civil rights; this would ultimately result in emphasizing the positive values and expectations of all identities, while promoting co-existence, tolerance and understanding.

AIC is a non-profit organization dedicated to building interfaith and interethnic understanding. Our organization grew out of the ashes of September 11. We believe American Muslims must take the lead in building tolerance and fostering a respect for human rights and social justice at home and throughout the Muslim world. Within the Muslim community, we are building a coalition around the agenda of unequivocal denunciation of terrorism, extremism, and hate speech. Reaching out to all people of conscience, we promote genuine interfaith dialogue and educate about the diversity within Islam.

Position summary:

-         Serve as project leader

-         Build relationships with students, professors and community representatives

-         Design interfaith/civil rights  events for Muslim and non Muslim students on campus

-         Manage Project Nur staff

-         Prepare development of new events and operating budgets

-         Representing the organization at meetings and building relationships with new partners

-         Manage and promote relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring strong and sustainable partnerships.

-         Facilitating communication & networking between the different projects

-         Manage all day-to-day administrative and logistical activities of the program

-         Participating in long-range planning of organizational goals

Qualifications:

- Masters in human rights/social justice or related fields

- Strong project management experience (4-6 years)

- Familiarity with youth activism

- Detail oriented and organized

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Ability to take initiative in small group environments

- Ability to develop and manage programs

- Interest in issues of youth advocacy, civil rights, and women's rights

- Able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities well and work in a fast-paced environment

Hours: 40hrs/week (Full time)
