Location: New York

Position Description:

The Director of the Coalition will lead a small office and staff.  The Secretariat is located in New York near UN HQ. The Director will work with regional consultants and help develop projects with member organizations under the auspices of the Steering Committee. The Director of the Coalition will jointly report to the Executive Director of WFM-IGP and to the Steering Committee, as appropriate.

Responsibilities: (including but not limited to the following)

• Develop, with the Steering Committee, the strategic direction for the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect, and assess targets and goals;
• Project management including supervising project staff, overseeing budget and expenditures, including fundraising;
• Develop and lead advocacy campaigns for civil society at international, regional, sub-regional, and national levels; engage in high-level advocacy at the UN and worldwide;
• Represent the Coalition at meetings and conferences with NGOs, governments and UN officials in New York and worldwide;
• In cooperation with Coalition Members, help reinforce a strong like-minded group of Governments in support of RtoP;
• Identify and strengthen new Member organizations of the Coalition;
• Guide implementation of the Coalition's Steering Committee meeting outputs;
• Coordinate and assist with the Coalition's fundraising efforts.

Terms:
* Full-Time, with benefits; excellent health-care package, employer-paid retirement plan and 4 weeks vacation annually;
* Compensation is commensurate with experience and salary history; Salary range $65,000 -$75,000
* Starting date: as soon as possible

Qualifications:

• • Master's Degree preferred, ideally in International Relations, Public International Law, Political Science or a related field or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 6-10 years previous experience working with a non-governmental organization, an international institution, or related.
  • Preferred 2-5 years experience in launching, running and mobilizing civil society in prior campaigns, networks and/or coalitions. Relevant advocacy experience a requirement.
  • Experience with project management including budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience in grant writing and grant editing is a necessity;
  • Good oral and written communications skills in English required; experience with online communication.
  • Fluency in a second United Nations language is very desirable.
  • Strong diplomatic skills, confidence and professionalism in interactions with high level diplomats, government officials and representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to take initiative; proven leadership skills; ability to independently organize and prioritize several ongoing projects; creativity.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Experience in working in diverse international setting is desirable; knowledge of diverse cultures and of RtoP conflict situations.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-point) and Internet search engines.
