Dear Colleague,
My name is Jessica Lee and I work in the Community Engagement and Education department at POV, PBS' award winning social issue documentary series. On July 14th, POV will broadcast The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court by Pamela Yates, Paco de Onis and Peter Kinoy. Please check your local listings: http://www.pbs.org/pov/tvschedule/
The Reckoning tells the story of the first permanent court created to prosecute perpetrators, no matter how powerful, of crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide. The Reckoning follows dynamic International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo and his team for three years across four continents as he issues arrest warrants for Lord's Resistance Army leaders in Uganda, puts Congolese warlords on trial, shakes up the Colombian justice system, and charges Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir with genocide in Darfur. Like a deft thriller, The Reckoning keeps you on the edge of your seat. Will the prosecutor succeed? Will the world ensure that justice prevails? An Official Selection of the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
POV has launched an outreach campaign around The Reckoning and hope that you will help us spread the word. There are several ways you can do this:
1) Include information on your website. Post an ad and/or blurb on your organization's website or blog, announcing the broadcast of the film. You can download the banner ad from our online Pressroom:http://www.amdoc.org/pressroom_pov2009.php
2) You also have the option of embedding our YouTube trailer on your website: http://www.youtube.com/user/povborders
3) Email your constituents, list-serv members and colleagues about the broadcast date.
To get more involved, you can also:
1) Host a sneak preview screening and discussion of The Reckoning.
Apply online: www.amdoc.org/outreach/events/register.php
(POV offers free, downloadable discussion guides, lesson plans and reading lists.)
2) Visit IJCentral (http://ijcentral.org/) if you want to join a global social network about the international justice movement, join in its action campaigns and follow it on Twitter.
3) Join with existing human rights organizations to support applications for asylum by those fleeing from human rights abuses. For a selected listing of these organizations, view the Resources section in POV's The Reckoning discussion guide, available for download here: www.pbs.org/pov/reckoning/
Thanks for your all of your help and we hope that you will be able to use the film for your organization's purposes!
Kind regards,
Jessica
